The Regional Affairs Office (RAO) is responsible for monitoring and analyzing multilateral political and economic issues
in the Southeast Asian region as they affect U.S. policy interests. In recent years, the office has concentrated on economic
growth issues and international trade activities in the region. In addition to preparation of research papers in response to
specific State Department requirements, the office also supports reporting requirements of the Embassy and other U.S. embassies
in the region.
