Opening Night of Democratic Convention Celebrates Obama's Story
Thousands of Democratic leaders and delegates began the Democratic National Convention with a celebration for their party
and Senator Barack Obama, the man they will nominate later this week as the first African-American presidential candidate of a major
political party.
The evening's activities were designed to rally the party and featured uplifting speeches from leaders and delegates.
Dispersed between these speeches and musical performances were videos about Obama and about issues important to Democrats.

Sultan of Selangor paid a visit to the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan
The Sultan of Selangor paid a visit to the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan on Wednesday, August 20th, accompanied by U.S. Ambassador
James R. Keith. The U.S.S. Reagan arrived in Port Klang on a scheduled port call. The ship, named for the 40th U.S.
president, is a Nimitz-class nuclear-powered super carrier commissioned in July 2003. With two nuclear reactors, the
carrier can operate for 20 years without refueling, and carries more than 5,500 sailors and over 80 aircraft.

Asia, a new book available at Kuala Lumpur's Lincoln Corner that chronicles an interesting period in the US relationship with
Southeast Asia. The Embassy hosted a digital video conference with Dr. Hibler at the KL Lincoln Center on August 11, during which
the author shared her perspectives on the relationship between the U.Sand Southesast Asia during the period leading up to the
